NGO Website

The problem

The Nature Forever Society’s website had become outdated, with several known issues affecting user experience. Our objective was to enhance the site’s functionality, update its visual appeal, and effectively showcase the NGO’s impactful work. The client desired a vibrant, visually-driven site with minimal text, yet the existing design was not optimized for mobile devices, despite being responsive.

Upon reviewing the old website, it was evident that it was no longer effective. Given that the site serves an NGO, it was crucial for corporates to easily access information on ongoing and completed projects, as well as to engage with CSR activities. Additionally, potential donors needed a straightforward way to contribute to the cause.

The previous landing page lacked proper structure and an intuitive information flow. The projects the NGO was involved in were not prominently featured on the homepage, making it challenging for visitors to quickly understand and engage with the organization’s mission.

A modular approach

A modular design approach was adopted, focusing on creating a flexible and user-centric experience. My process began with an extensive benchmarking and analysis phase. Although there were few direct competitors in the NGO space, several organizations were examined to gather insights. Additionally, NGOs from other sectors were explored that engage with corporates for CSR activities to identify best practices and trends.

Following this, I conducted a collaborative brainstorming session with the client, complemented by a card sorting activity. This helped us define the optimal information architecture and user flow. Utilizing these insights, I developed an initial box diagram to outline the website structure. This diagram was continuously refined based on client feedback, eventually evolving into the final wireframes.

With the foundational layout established, I proceeded to create detailed sketches for each module of the website. This modular design approach allowed us to focus on each section individually, ensuring that each module effectively addressed user needs and client goals.

Embracing nature

I intentionally drew inspiration from the natural world to create a cohesive and authentic visual experience. Every element was thoughtfully chosen to reflect nature’s essence.

I selected a color palette inspired by the natural environment, incorporating shades that evoke the beauty and tranquility of the outdoors. The typography features hand-written fonts, adding a personal and organic touch that mirrors the uniqueness of nature. Additionally, custom, hand-crafted icons were designed to further reinforce the natural theme.

This deliberate approach ensured that every aspect of the website not only aligns with the organization’s mission but also enhances the overall aesthetic, making the digital experience feel closely connected to the natural world.

Ready for take-off

After finalizing the new design, I proceeded with an A/B test to evaluate its effectiveness. We compared the new design with the old version using a select segment of our user base. The results were highly encouraging: the new design significantly outperformed the previous one in several key metrics.

This project highlights how strategic visual enhancements can profoundly impact user experience and engagement. By focusing on a vibrant, user-friendly design, we were able to improve the website’s overall effectiveness and traffic. This redesign not only rejuvenated the site’s aesthetic but also demonstrated the powerful influence of thoughtful design changes on a website’s performance.
